Psychotherapy

Talk therapy for adults 18+ (see Adolescent Therapy for information about therapy with minors). Talk therapy begins with a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment; I ask about what brings you to therapy, what life has been like for you up to this point, important people in your life, your childhood, and what's going well for you, among other topics that may come up. Although I may ask about things that don't immediately seem relevant to why you're seeking therapy, it's important that I get as complete a picture as possible to understand you.

I utilize a lot of developmental psychology in my treatment of adults. Our childhood experiences often shape who we become as adults. We shape our relationships based off of our parents', we learn to navigate emotions from the adults we go to for support, and speak to ourselves the way we were spoken to. Our adult issues were not created in a vacuum.

My approach to therapy is client-centered and highly interpersonal; the therapist-client relationship is the driving force behind change, so if we don't get along as people, then you're not getting the most you could out of the experience. I spend the first few sessions just building our rapport, for this reason. It also helps me get to know how you think, and what might be the most effective way to approach your issues.
